Moxibustion
An integral part of Chinese medicine for thousands of years, moxibustion is used frequently for conditions ranging from bronchial asthma to arthritis to menstrual pain. In moxibustion, the leaves of the Chinese herb mugwort or Ai Ye (Artemesiae Vulgaris) are dried and then burned.
The dried burning leaves then heat specially chosen acupuncture points from a short distance, either via a cigar-like “moxa stick” or compressed leaves applied to the end of an acupuncture needle. They may also be in the form of a small cone placed directly on the skin, then removed before the heat becomes uncomfortable. We use moxibustion to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities, “strengthen blood,” and maintain optimum health.
